Screamin’ Eagle® Syn3® vs H-D® Genuine Oil SAE 20w50

An essential maintenance ritual involves a regular oil change, using the most optimal lubricant for your Harley-Davidson® regarding to the recommendations in your motorcycle manual.

While there’s a lot of controversy and opinions about using mineral or synthetic oil, we would like to give you some tips to help you pick the best oil for your Harley-Davidson®.

Why viscosity matters

The “resistance to flow” is the most important property of a lubricant.

While old engines work better with the conventional mineral oil (Harley-Davidson® Genuine Oil SAE 20w50) as, due to its “thickness”, it acts as sealant minimizing leaks; modern high-revving motorcycles need high-efficiency lubricants, like the new full-synthetic Screamin’ Eagle® Syn3®, which resist viscosity breakdowns, remaining stable during start-ups and cooling periods.

Highly efficient in extreme temperatures

This resistance to break down makes the Syn3® the best choice for the Australian summer, particularly in extreme heat situations like being stuck in a traffic jam with an air-cooled motorbike, reducing friction and protecting the engine from wear.

In addition, the Syn3® blend of additives keep the engine clean, trapping contaminants and preventing sludge formation due to suspended particles from combustion.

Translated to English, this means: longer-lasting engine, slightly higher fuel economy and longer periods between oil changes.

Less cost ≠ lower performance

The main advantage of our Genuine Oil SAE 20w50 is that is cheaper than the Syn3®, but it doesn’t mean lower quality or lower performance. Mineral oil actually prevents corrosion and helps the rings and pistons bed in properly during the crucial run-in stage.
